急中生智的狗

司湯達說過，理智的人面對危險，會急中生智，可以說，比平時更聰明。文中這條聰明的狗也一樣。

A rich man decided to go on a safari Africa. He took his pet Dachshund dog along for company. One day， the dog starts chasing butterflies and before long the dog discovers that he is lost.

Wandering about， he notices a leopard heading rapidly in his direction with the obvious intention of having lunch. The dog thinks， “Im in deep trouble now！” Then he noticed some bones on the ground close by and immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat.

Just as the leopard is about to leap， the dog exclaims loudly， “Boy， that was one delicious leopard. I wonder if there are any more around here.”

Hearing this， the leopard halts his attack in mid-stride， as a look of terror comes over him， and slinks away into the trees. “Whew，” says the leopard. “That was close！ That dog nearly had me.”

Meanwhile， a monkey has been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree， and he thinks he can put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the leopard.

So， off he goes. But the dog saw him heading after the leopard with great speed， and thought that something must be up.

The monkey soon catches up with the leopard， spills the beans and strikes a deal for himself with the leopard. The leopard is furious at being made a fool of and says， “Here monkey， hop on my back and see whats going to happen to that bad dog.”

Now the dog sees the leopard coming with the monkey on his back and thinks， “What am I going to do now？” But instead of running， the dog sits down with his back to his attackers， pretending he hasnt seen them yet... and just when they get close enough to hear， the dogs says：

“Wheres that damn monkey？ I sent him off half an hour ago to bring me another leopard， and hes still not back！”

Life consists not in holding good cards but in playing those you hold well.

一個有錢人決定到非洲去游獵，于是帶上了自己的臘腸狗做伴。一天，這條狗開始追逐蝴蝶，等他回過神來才發(fā)現(xiàn)自己迷路了。

正當(dāng)他閑逛時，他注意到一只豹子飛快地朝他跑過來，顯然是想把他當(dāng)作一頓美味的午餐。這條狗想：“我現(xiàn)在有大麻煩了！”這時，他發(fā)現(xiàn)附近的地面上有一些骨頭，于是他立即坐下來，背對著奔來的豹子，開始咀嚼骨頭。

當(dāng)豹子準(zhǔn)備一躍而起撲向獵物時，這條狗大聲叫了起來：“啊，這可真是美味的豹子啊，就不知道附近還有沒有更多的豹子?！?/p>

聽到這話，豹子連忙停住了腳步，面露恐懼之色，悄悄逃到了樹叢中。“喲，”這只豹子說，“這可真險??！這條狗差點兒就要了我的命！”

與此同時，附近樹上的一只猴子將這一幕看得清清楚楚。他決定向豹子告密，以換取豹子的保護。

于是，他去追豹子。但是，這條狗看到猴子飛奔著去追豹子，預(yù)感大事不妙。

猴子很快追上了豹子，向他述說了詳細情況，并要求豹子與他達成協(xié)議，保護自己的安全。豹子感覺被狗耍了，暴跳如雷地說：“猴兒，趕緊跳到我的背上，看我怎么收拾這條狡猾的狗。”

這條狗看到豹子馱著猴子追回來了，趕緊琢磨：“我現(xiàn)在該怎么辦呢？” 但是他沒有逃走，而是坐下來，背對著他的攻擊者，假裝沒有看到他們似的。等到他們走到足夠近的地方，這條狗說：

“那只該死的猴子到哪里去了？我半個小時前讓他去幫我再找一只豹子來，結(jié)果到現(xiàn)在他還沒有回來！”

生活不在于拿到一副好牌，而在于將手里的牌打好。
