Xi Urges Joint Efforts to Open Up New Prospects for Asian Security，Development

Chinese President Xi Jinping on July 15 urged Asian countries and their partners to join hands in opening up new prospects for Asian security and development under new circumstances.

Addressing the fifth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia （CICA） held in Dushanbe， capital of Tajikistan， Xi called on CICA members to build an Asia featuring mutual respect and trust， security and stability， development and prosperity， openness and inclusiveness as well as cooperation and innovation.

China will steadfastly pursue a peaceful development path， stick to opening-up and win-win approaches， uphold multilateralism， and work together with all sides to create a better future for Asia and the world， said the Chinese president.

Hosted by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon， the CICA summit was attended by leaders or representatives of Afghanistan， Azerbaijan， Bangladesh， Cambodia， Iran， Kazakhstan， Kyrgyzstan， Qatar， Russia， Sri Lanka， Turkey， Uzbekistan and other member countries， as well as representatives of observer states and relevant international and regional organizations.

Participants exchanged views on the theme “Shared Vision for a Secure and More Prosperous CICA Region，” held in-depth discussions on international and regional issues of common concern， jointly planned for Asias long-lasting peace and shared prosperity， and reached extensive consensus.

We should discard a zero-sum game mindset and protectionism， enhance policy communication， improve political mutual trust， and gradually expand strategic consensus， said Xi.

All sides pledged to jointly combat international terrorism， extremism and transnational organized crime， join efforts in addressing various risks and challenges， promote peace and stability in Asia and the world， strive to build a new type of international relations featuring mutual respect， fairness， justice， and win-win cooperation， and forge a community with a shared future for mankind.

Li Keqiang Meets with President of the World Bank Group David Malpass

On June 11， 2019， Premier Li Keqiang met with President of the World Bank Group David Malpass in Beijing.

Li Keqiang indicated that the cooperation between China and the World Bank Group was almost synchronized with Chinas reform and opening-up process. The two sides have conducted innovative， open， transparent， and productive cooperation in areas such as loans and know-how over the past nearly 40 years， which is conducive to the development of China and the World Bank Group. Li said China is willing to deepen cooperative partnership with the World Bank Group to send positive signals to the world and jointly promote global development and prosperity.

Li Keqiang pointed out that as the worlds largest developing country， China is willing to fulfill its due international responsibilities and obligations while doing its own job.

David Malpass said that China has made outstanding achievements in economic growth and development， lifted a large number of people out of poverty， and continuously promoted innovative economic development and environmental protection. The World Bank Group is aware that China still faces development needs in many areas， and looks forward to deepening multi-field cooperation with the Chinese side within a bilateral framework or globally， so that the two sides can better realize mutual benefit and multi-win results in their cooperation and promote the global development process.

Wang Qishan Visits Germany

From May 30 to June 2， 2019， Vice President Wang Qishan visited Germany at the invitation of the Federal Government of Germany， during which he met with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin.

When meeting with Frank-Walter Steinmeier， Wang Qishan said that the relations between the two countries have transcended the bilateral scope and bear global significance. In recent years， the two countries have seen intensified high-level exchanges and constantly deepened cooperation in all fields. As bilateral relations are currently facing a new situation， the two countries should set a model of winwin cooperation for the world.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that the German side highly values relations with China， supports strengthening communication and coordination with China at all levels， and continues practical cooperation in Industry 4.0 and in other fields. Germany and China， as well as Europe and China， should join hands to maintain world peace and stability， free trade， and the existing international order.

While meeting Angela Merkel， Wang Qishan expressed that China and Germany， as all-around strategic partners， need to strengthen cooperation in building a fairer and more reasonable global governance system to jointly face uncertainties.

Angela Merkel said Germany and China， as well as Europe and China， share broad consensus on a wide range of issues， and they stand ready to strengthen communication， exchanges， and cooperation with the Chinese side to improve global governance system.

“The different social and political systems between China and the United States did not prevent us from coming together 40 years ago， nor should they in the future. We should aim at mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. Any attempt to seek zerosum outcome or turn the other country into a copy of itself is not only futile， but also harmful.”

Chinese Ambassador Cui Tiankai made the remark on June 12 at the ceremony of George H. W. Bush Award for Statesmanship in U.S.-China Relations Honoring President Jimmy Carter in Atlanta.
