摘 要:This article discusses the components of English competences and the analysis of the incompetence, also provides the applicable techniques and attitude on building up intercultural communication abilities.

A.The Problematic Present Situations

With the rapid development of globalization, it has become easier for everyone all over the world to communicate, but more difficult to be successful negotiators or communicators. Confronted with all this, as global citizens, we must be prepared to meet the challenges of language differences, unfamiliar and perhaps strange customs and behaviors, cultural variability in both verbal and non-verbal communication styles to achieve success; otherwise, we cannot expect to achieve new goals or move beyond our present circumstances unless we start to make changes.

Therefore, people need to possess a few of cross-cultural communication competences. Before we get down to talking further, firstly, we should all be aware of the definition of intercultural communication, which, according to Wikipedia, is that “Intercultural communication is a form of communication that aims to share information across different cultures and social groups. Also, it is used to describe the wide range of communication processes and problems that naturally appear within an organization or social context made up of individuals from different religious, social, ethnic, and educational backgrounds”. Actually cross-cultural communication should be identified as both a concept and a competence which contributes acceleration to effective mutual benefits. In addition, cross-cultural competence means the ability to interact effectively and appropriately with members of another linguistic-cultural background. The overall internal capacity of an individual to manage key challenging features of intercultural communication is cultural differences and unfamiliarity, inter-group postures and the accompanying experience of stress.

B.Components of this Competence

There are five components of cross-cultural communication competence:

1. Motivation to communicate

The truth is that two countries are going to have a conflict. If the leaders of one country can send some negotiators to the other, it is believed that this is the first step in overcoming violence and conflict.
