Traditional Chinese Medicine in the New Era
——New Year Message 2019

剛剛過去的2018年，對于中醫藥事業的發展來說，注定是歷史長河中不平凡的一年。這一年，世界衛生組織首次決定將包含中醫藥學在內的傳統醫學體系納入到國際疾病分類（ICD-11）中；這一年，美國《國家地理》雜志也將發表長文，稱：“中醫藥擁有最古老的持續醫學觀察記錄，是有待現代醫學深入發掘的最大寶庫”。盡管中醫藥學一直飽受爭議，同時中醫藥現代化和國際化之路阻且長，但我們還是依稀看到“中醫藥的春天來了”。

對于《現代中藥》這本年輕的雜志來說，一年來，我們得到國內外同道太多的支持和幫助：52位編委專家義務為雜志供稿、審稿，并推薦宣傳；編輯部的青年人不計報酬，修稿、譯稿，廢寢忘食、甚至徹夜不眠；可愛的讀者們直截了當地為雜志提出合理的改進建議；雜志網站維護人員夜以繼日地工作，確保了每期文章能夠順利、準時上線，以饗讀者。

回顧2018年共四期計32篇文章，作者中有中央文史館官員、中國工程院院士、國家杰出青年科學基金獲得者、國家萬人計劃入選者、國家優秀青年科學基金獲得者等一批知名中醫藥學者，也包括一批初出茅廬的未來之星；有專注科學研究的基礎專家，更有臨證經驗豐富的臨床醫生。大家均朝著共同目標，即中醫藥的現代發展和走向國際，砥礪前行。

展望2019年，《現代中藥》雜志將在既定發展思路的基礎上，以“展示高質量的中醫藥多源證據，促進證據轉化應用”為主旨，并增設中醫藥學研究新技術和新方法專欄，宣傳新技術、新方法為中醫藥研究帶來的新變化，凸顯《現代中藥》的辦刊初衷和內涵；積極向業內知名專家和后起之秀約稿，保證優質稿源，寧缺毋濫，擴大雜志在行業內的影響力和知名度；參與相關學術團體和機構的活動，探討合作建成官方刊物的可能性；吸納海內外編委和審稿人，擴大國際專家在編委會的比例，增強國際學術競爭力；增補一批青年編委，為中醫藥現代化事業的可持續發展培養英才。

在紀念改革開放四十周年的日子里，中醫藥學人也將闊步進入新時代。國家“一帶一路”的政策精神無疑將推動中醫藥走出國門、走向世界的進程。年輕的中醫藥學人應該抓住這個大好時機，以“功成不必在我，功力必不唐捐”的決心和氣度，勇于擔當，站在前人的肩膀上，取其精華、去其糟粕，一往無前，中醫藥現代化和國際化的宏偉目標一定會早日實現！

The past year of 2018 is destined to be extraordinary for traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)over her profound history of forming and development.It witnessed for the first time the World Heath Organization’s(WHO)move to include traditional medicine(TCM inclusive)in the list of the International Classification of Diseases(ICD-11),which is a really positive step recognizing traditional Chinese medicine.Similarly exciting is in the 2019 first issue,the National Geographic Magazine commented on how ancient remedies are changing modern medicine,and acknowledged China as one of the Nations possessing the oldest continuous accumulations of documented medical observations,which offers the biggest trove for scientists to sift through.Faintly yet definitely,TCM practioners and researcher are embracing a upcoming year of spring,indicating development and harvest,despite surrounding controversies and forseenable difficulties on the long way to modernization and internationalization.

Our fledgling journal "Traditional Medicine Research"has received considerable support and help,both domestic and foreign,over the past year.We owe sincere thanks to our 52 editorial board members who are obligated to contribute,review and recommend quality articles;to our diligent young editors who stayed overnight editing and translating academic papers;to our lovely and straightforward readerswho generously provided constructive suggestions;and to our website maintenance staff who had worked day and night to ensure timely online publication of each and every article.

Let us take a back look at the authors contributing to the 4 issues of 32 articles published on the TMR journals of 2018,among whom are member of the Central Meseum of Literature and History,academician of the Chinese Academy ofEngineering,awardeeofthe National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars,awardee of the National Ten Thousand Talents Plan,awardee of the National Science Fund for Outstanding Young Scientists,as well as young fledgling scholars.Some of them take interest in basic scientific research while some are experienced clinical practitioners.Yet they all move toward the common goal of TCM modernization and internationalization.

Looking forward to the new 2019,the TMR publishing group will focus on"exhibiting high-quality evidence of traditional Chinese medicine and promoting evidence translation and application"on the basis of previously established blueprint.While sticking firmly to our original idea and scope,we are planning to open a new special column for introducing TCM new technology and methodology,and for demonstrating the potential impact brought about by these technologies.Furthermore,we will actively invite articles from well-known experts and rising stars in the industry,and spare no effort to ensure quality,deepen influence and guarantee prestige,even at the sarcrifice of insufficient publications.Also we strive to participate in academic activities of relevant groups and institutions for any possibility of cooperation and becoming an official publication.As always we will continue recruiting editors and reviewers from home and abroad,expand the proportion of international experts on the editorial board,so as to enhance international academic competitivity.Besides we wil recruit a group of young editorial board members,who would become future leaders of the campaign for sustainable development of the modernization cause of traditional Chinese medicine.

In the days of commemorating the 40thanniversary of reform and opening-up,TCM scholars are striding into a new era.The Belt and Road Initiative(BRI)will undoubtedly and profoundly impact the process of TCM to go abroad and go global.It is right time for young scholars to seize every opportunity,make up your mind,take due responsibility,and devote yourself to the great cause.For you,young scholar,do bear in mind the courage and generosity as demonstrated in the sentence“success may not be yours by your devotion will never be wasted”,and try to stand on the shoulders of your predecessors,accepting the good while dicarding the bad.Before long,each and everyone of you will be the witness to the realization of the grand goal of modernizaion and internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine!
