Progress in clinical application of Kinesio taping

Kinesio taping is actually a kind of elastic treatment band which is stuck on the skin surface and is used for treating sports injuries and various other conditions[1]. Kinesio taping was first invented and created by Dr. Kenzo Kase in 1973 and applied in the field of sports medicine[2]. After improvement, it has become an elastic patch with low allergy and no drug ingredients. It has certain air permeability and waterproof characteristics. it is mainly made of waterproof elastic cotton cloth, release material and medical acrylic glue [3]. The application of kinesio taping is not only limited to sports injuries with obvious clinical symptoms, but also widely used in prevention and treatment of sports injuries, improvement of sports performance and treatment of lymphedema in clinical.

Lymphedema is a protein-rich fluid that affects the function of body parts and hinders the flow of body fluids[4]. Physical therapy is of great significance for the treatment of breast lymphedema after operation[5]. Studies have proved that tissue lymphedema can develop from level 1 to level 2 within one year under the intervention of physical therapy[6]. The effect of kinesio taping on lymphedema can stretch the upper layer of skin, make a gap between dermis and muscle, and promote the release of myofascial and the resorption of lymph in surrounding tissues[7, 8]. Through this action, the pressure exerted on lymphatic vessels and lymphatic vessels is relieved, and the flow of lymphatic vessels is promoted[9, 10]. This method can make lymphatic drainage in affected areas better[7, 11]. The application of kinesio taping has been gradually popularized in clinical practice. I believe that with the development of future medical technology, kinesio taping will be applied to more diseases.
