本單元的中心話題是“計算機”,內容涉及計算機的發展歷史及應用等,其中還談到包括計算機在內的幾種信息技術的載體、智能計算機的發明等等。不過,整個單元多以計算機為第一人稱進行自白,這種擬人的手法使得文章讀起來妙趣橫生,抽象的專業知識介紹起來也淺顯易懂。本主旨語篇who am i?以計算機的口吻自述其發展演變的歷史以及計算機在當今世界各個領域的運用。表達了計算機的發展變化之快以及在生活中用途之廣。
計算機這一話題雖然是學生所感興趣的話題,但本單元體裁屬于科普類說明文,內容較為抽樣,文章中有一些專業術語,對于高一學生來說有一定的難度。目前,學生的詞匯量不足以充分的理解課文,而且學生的跨文化意識不高并且背景知識匱乏,語言和信息的雙向促進關系的能力不足。學生的課外語言活動環境不夠豐富和重視程度不夠,通常以詞匯、語法和寫作練習為主,缺乏真實的語言運用。

本單元設計了若干情景與活動,旨在以學生為主體,充分調動他們的積極性,讓他們在有趣的課堂活動中有效學習。但本堂課中也出現了若干問題:課堂上的時間分配要更加的科學一些,不能平分時間,一些“熱身”活動應該輕輕帶過,否則會造成課堂的時間控制不了。從課堂實踐來看,學生樂于在小組中進行合作學習,所以任務設計更要符合學生的實際水平,難易要適中,而且設計活動時要考慮活動有教學目標是否真正一致,避免活動流于形式。總體上,本設計以活動為中心,以學生為主體,將英語學習與現實生活緊密結合,體現了跨學科的外語教學。教學過程環環相扣,從難到易,從語言知識到篇章結構,將閱讀技能的訓練貫穿整個課堂教學。
