In Lesson 1,students learned “Elias story” and know about Nelson Mandela through Elias. In this lesson,students will know more qualities in Nelson Mandela.

1. Read “The rest of Elias story” and summarize the main idea of this passage

3. Know the usage and meanings of educate,reward and come to power.

4. Know how to describe ones quality.

5. Studying from Nelson Mandela. Have a better self- awareness to be a great man and make progress.

Teaching procedure

Review & lead in

1. We learned Elias story on Monday. Elias introduced his life from 1952 to 1963.Can you retell Eliasstory with your words?

2. Then what happened to Elias? Have a guess!

Ⅰ. Reading and discussing

1. Fast reading

First,please listen to the tape. Then youll have 1 minute to think out one or two sentences to summarize the main idea.Whats “ The rest of Elias story” about?( listening )

2. Carefully reading

Lets read the passage again.Before we read,lets look at some questions on ppt.(表格)Now please read it carefully and try your best to find the answers from the passage.( reading) Have you finished yeat? Ok,youll have three minutes to discuss with your partner.(discussing)Ok.The first question. Why was Elias better educated? S:T:Good. Because Mandela taught him in prison.

Now please pay your attention on this word—educate.(knowledge point 1)

educate Vt. 教育;訓練eg. Children need to be educated on good qualities.

educated adj. 受過教育的;有教養的eg. Gentlemen speak in an educated voice.

When we leared Elias story. We find mandale is generous. He offered guidance to black people. So,in the rest of Elias story,what qualities did you find in Mandela?Youll have 5minutes to discuss in group of four. When you get your answers,please find an example to support your opinion.(discussing ) …
