Measuring the World with Steps

Nature there are rich and colorful landscape and endless mystery， fascinating， making us eager to watch， to study， to explore. My 50 years of geological career has enabled me the opportunity to travel the mountains and rivers of the motherland and the world's seven continents， five oceans， in particular， many times to the special environment of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the Antarctic， Arctic and other places to measured the world with my own footsteps. I am in this process have had the access to gain a large number of first-hand scientific research materials， withstood the thrilling test. There have been relaxed and happy heroic， but also experience of luck in the dangerous environment. In the field expedition， difficulties and dangers are often unexpected， sudden. Any lack of contingency of wisdom and ability will lead to the helpless situation， paying a high price and even life.

During my travel all over the world， I have broaden the horizons， accumulated experience， honed the will， enhanced the body. A few days ago， I was able to work in Tibet， living a few days four or five kilometers on the plateau. I am deeply attracted by the charm of nature， and grateful for natures blessings！ Only personally embrace and be embraced by the nature can we truly feel the mystery of it. Therefore， those who have the conditions to closely contact with nature， especially young people， should actively participate in the nature to cultivate sentiments， develop abilities. However， you can not blindly go wild and adventure. Those who travel to the special environment， study and adventure， must use scientificly armed minds to be fully prepared.

Knowledge Preparation： To have a better understanding of the geography， terrain， climate， environment， traffic， customs and natural disasters of the place to go， according to the natural conditions and social environment. Must have wild knowledge， in the mountains to pay attention to landslides， floods， avalanches and other natural disasters. When camping， be familiar with the surrounding environment. Also， have in-depth understanding to the expedition of the object and scientific issues， especially to the inaccessible places， such as the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau， Antarctic， Arctic expedition， where you will find many landscapes and natural phenomena that are rare in other places. The more knowledgeable， the more knowledge you can find， and the greater you can achieve.

Physical preparation： generally the places for field study are mostly hard and dangerous ones， hence healthy body is the most basic and most important conditions. To have an objective and accurate assessment of your own body. If there is heart disease， high blood pressure， the risk of alpine will increase， thus it is not suitable to go to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau or to climb high mountains.

Spiritual preparation： difficult environment can exercise will， but also test will， consequently strong will be particularly important. Under the same conditions， strong will or not， the difficulties of coping and affordability are very different. Strong ones can break difficulties， while weak people will be crushed by them， and even fall into mental disorders. Mature psychological and the mental training of "bold and tense， calm and brave" in many cases are needed.

Material preparation： having activities in special environments， people must be prepared to adapt to special circumstances of the items. Such as clothing for cold or hot weathers， a pair of comfortable and durable hiking shoes. In addition to the appropriate clothings， there are essential protective equipment， such as to the plateau polar， icy mountains or snowfields， at least be equipped with a good shade cap and sunglasses to prevent ultraviolet and snow blind. Commonly used and emergency medicine， high-energy and good-to-carry food， locator and communication tools are also indispensable.

Tour is not a game and adventure is not a risk. To participate in any activities should put safety first， so that we can be well prepared， brave facing difficulties， calm meeting dangers； read and remember， think and learn， hence gaining treasures of traveling， exploring and adventures. Throughout the ages， many pioneers in order to explore the nature， from heaven into the land， climbing the sea， opened numerous mysteries of nature， leaving immortal epics of heroes for their offspring， which is the precious spiritual wealth of mankind.
