重慶是中國著名歷史文化名城，有文字記載的歷史3000多年。1189年，宋光宗趙惇先封恭王再即帝位，稱為“雙重喜慶”，重慶由此得名。重慶幅員面積8.24萬平方公里，轄38個區縣（自治縣），常住人口3016.55萬人（截至2015年），有“山城”之稱。長江橫貫全境，流程679公里。有長江三峽、世界文化遺產大足石刻、世界自然遺產武隆喀斯特和南川金佛山等壯麗景觀。

1891年，重慶成為中國最早對外開埠的內陸通商口岸，1929年正式建市，抗日戰爭時期定為國民政府陪都。1997年6月18日，重慶直轄市正式掛牌，紅綢揭開的瞬間，中國最年輕的中央直轄市正式成立，重慶以中國第四個直轄市的新構架闊步走上中國改革發展大舞臺。

重慶，處在“一帶一路”和長江經濟帶“Y”字形大通道的聯接點上，與北京、天津、上海、廣州一起，被確定為國家五大中心城市，在中西部地區一枝獨秀。

直轄以來，重慶迎來了快速發展的機遇。重慶市已連續多年維持兩位數的GDP增速。2014年和2015年分別以10.9%、11%的增速排在全國第一，與直轄時相比，重慶的GDP已經漲了10倍。2016年上半年，重慶GDP增速以10.6%的高增長繼續領跑全國，這已是重慶連續多年在全國名列前茅。

Chongqing, with more than 3,000 years of written history, impresses the world as a well-known historical and cultural city of China. In the year of 1189, Emperor Guangzong of Song Dynasty ascended the throne after being crowned as the King of Gongzhou, which was definitely a double happiness. So he changed the name of Gongzhou into Chongqing (“Chong”literally means double and “qing” means happiness). Having been traversed completely by 679 miles of Yangtze River, Chongqing, also called the “mountain city”, covers an area of 82,400 km2, governs 38 districts and counties (autonomous counties) with a permanent resident population of 30,165,500 million people (up till 2015) and boasts plenty of picturesque landscapes like, the Yangtze Three Gorges, the Dazu Rock Carvings – one world cultural heritage and the Wulong Karst and Nanchuan Jinfo Mountain – two world natural heritages.

Having been opened to be the earliest inland treaty port for foreign trade in 1891, established offi cially as a city in 1929 and selected to be the auxiliary capital for national government during the period of anti-Japanese war, Chongqing was approved and unveiled to be the fourth and the youngest municipality city under the direct jurisdiction of the Central Government on the day of June 18, 1997. The moment when the red silk covering the name of Chongqing Municipality fell down, Chongqing started to stride on the big stage supported by China’s reform and opening-up to seek for better development in its brand new identity.

Located on the joint between the “Belt and Road” and the“Y-shaped” transport route of Yangtze River economic zone, Chongqing has been included into the fi ve national central cities together with Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Guangzhou and is going to outshine the brightest in west China.

Chongqing, after being approved to be a municipality city, has been developing rapidly with all the opportunities it’s been granted. For example, Chongqing has been maintaining a double-digit GDP growth rate for years in a row since then, which is 10 times more than that of the time when it just started being a municipality city. In the year of 2014 and 2015, Chongqing ranked first in China with a 10.9% and 11% GDP growth rate respectively, and for the first half year of 2016, it keeps advancing in front of other cities in China with a GDP growth rate of 10.6%, ranking the top nationwide for consecutive years.
