What are pyramids？

The pyramids are the stone tombs of Egypt's kings—the Pharaohs1and one of the world's greatest historical mysteries.They have stood for thousands of years，filled with many hidden secrets：clues about what life（and death）was like in Ancient Egypt.

金字塔是什么？

金字塔是埃及國王法老們的石墓——也是世界上最難解的歷史神秘事物之一。它們已經矗立了數千年，隱藏著無數的秘密——關于古埃及生活和死亡的線索。

Why did the Ancient Egyptians build pyramids？

The Egyptians believed that if the pharaoh's body could be mummified2after death the pharaoh would live forever.The tombs were designed to protect the buried Pharaoh's body and his belongings.

古埃及人為什么建造金字塔？

古埃及人認為，如果法老的遺體能被做成木乃伊，法老就能永生。墳墓被設計來保護埋葬的法老和他的陪葬品。

Where were they built？Why？

Most of the pyramids can be found on the western side of the Nile River，just into the dry desert.They built the pyramids next to the Nile River so it would be easier to get the blocks to the pyramid.The stones could be bought nearer to the pyramid building site by boat.The dry desert worked to keep the Pharaohs'body and his belongings from decomposing3and rotting4away.

Ancient Egyptians were buried with their belongings and the tomb walls were painted with scenes of the dead persons'life.We can learn about how the Egyptians lived by looking at the walls of pyramids.In this painting we can see some of the animals they kept.By examining the artifacts5and paintings in the tombs，we have been able to understand a lot more about life in Ancient Egypt.
