1. doubt n. 懷疑；疑惑，疑問

v. 懷疑，不相信，不信任

There is no doubt at all that we did the right thing.

毫無疑問我們做對了。

doubt無論作名詞還是動詞，如果用在否定句或疑問句中，其后的賓語或同位語從句常用that引導；如果用在肯定句中，其后的從句多用if或whether引導（若是同位語從句，則只能用whether引導，不能用if）。

I never doubted that she would come.

我從未懷疑過她會來。

I doubt if/whether the new one will be any better.

7. ought v. 應該，應當

ought通常與to連用，構成情態動詞ought to，其意思是“應該”，與should意思相當，只是語氣稍重一些，無人稱和時態變化。

（1） 表示義務、責任等：

They ought to apologize.

（2） 表示期望或可能發生的事：

Children ought to be able to read by the age of 7.

兒童7歲時應該識字了。

（3） 表示勸告或建議：

You ought to have come to the meeting. It was too interesting.

（4） 表示可能發生的或真實的事情：

If he started out at nine， he ought to be here by now.

The gallery possesses a number of the artists early works.
