1. Dinosaur-shaped Nuggets

恐龍形狀的雞肉塊

America did invent the chicken nugget， but it’s the Brits who shaped them into dinosaurs for our childlike delight. Bernard Matthews， of the food brand by the same name， was the first to sell mass-produced turkey nuggets in the shape of dinosaurs in the late 20th century.

美國人確實發(fā)明了這種雞肉塊，但是英國人為了滿足孩子們的喜好將其制成了恐龍的形狀。伯納德·馬修斯的同名食品品牌是20世紀晚期第一家大量出售恐龍形狀的火雞肉塊的商家。

2. Chicken-fried Steak

炸牛排

Much like the beloved hot dog， chicken-fried steak was brought over by immigrants. Of course， today’s version is a bit modified， but the original idea was from our Germanic brothers and sisters across the Atlantic.

像我們喜歡的熱狗，炸牛排也是由移民帶到美國的。當然現(xiàn)在的炸牛排肯定有些改變，但是最原始的炸牛排源自大西洋彼岸的德國。

3. Bacon

培根

Bacon had been around in some form or another before the American craze hit. The actual term “bacon” was a popular word around the 12th century but it didn’t refer to the food we know today until the 17th century. Bacon isn’t a new food in the slightest， and most definitely not an American invention.

在美國人掀起培根熱潮之前，培根就以某種形式出現(xiàn)了。實際上“培根”這個詞在12世紀就很流行，但直到17世紀它才用來指我們今天吃的培根肉。培根根本就不是一種新食物，明顯也不是由美國人發(fā)明的。

4. Hot Dogs

The sausage itself comes from Germany， and the whole putting the frankfurter in a roll thing was brought to the US by a Polish guy named Nathan Handwerker. Frankfurters in buns became wildly popular in America， but that doesn’t mean Americans actually invented the hot dog. However， since Handwerker did immigrate to the US， you can pretend it was an American invention.

香腸本身起源于德國。把熏豬牛肉香腸卷成卷帶到美國的是一個叫納森·漢德維克的波蘭人。面包夾香腸是一種在美國廣為流行的吃法，但那并不意味著熱狗就是美國人發(fā)明的。然而，由于納森·漢德維克移民到了美國，你也可以假裝認為熱狗就是美國人發(fā)明的。

5. Chocolate Bar

The chocolate bar is another food that was not invented by Americans. Fry’s Chocolate Factory in Bristol， England， made the first chocolate bars for mass consumption in 1847. Even the next version of the candy bar， which most resembles what we see today， was invented in Canada， not the US.

巧克力棒是另一種不是由美國人發(fā)明的食物。英格蘭布里斯托爾的弗里巧克力工廠1847年最先把巧克力棒投入量產(chǎn)。即使隨后出現(xiàn)的巧克力糖果棒，就是與我們現(xiàn)在見到的巧克力糖果棒很相似的那種，也不是由美國人發(fā)明的，而是由加拿大人發(fā)明的。

6. Ice Cream Cake

Ice cream cake is one of those dishes that evolved over time， starting with a popular Renaissance dessert of cream and biscuits. By the Victorian era， frozen cream （aka ice cream） had made its way to Europe. Recipes for something closely resembling today’s ice cream cake appeared in the 19th century.

冰奶油蛋糕是其中一種隨著時間進化而來的食物，它的原型是一種時興于文藝復興時期的奶油餅干甜品。維多利亞時期凍奶油（又稱冰淇淋）傳到了歐洲。和現(xiàn)在的冰奶油蛋糕很相似的一種冰淇淋的做法出現(xiàn)在19世紀。

7. Macaroni and Cheese

There’s a rumor that Thomas Jefferson’s many accomplish-ments included the invention of macaroni and cheese—again， 1. He did， however， encounter the delicious dish while abroad in Paris and northern Italy and promptly began importing it when he returned to America.

8. Apple Pie

You may think apple pie is an American invention， but it is not. The first recorded apple pie recipe was written in 1381 in England and it has been a popular dessert there ever since.
