CCS Facilitates“COSLPROSPECTOR” Move to Deep Sea

The “COSLPROSPECTOR” in its yellow coat is shining brightly on the greenish seawater under the blue sky. As one of the participation parties, China Classification Society (CCS) provided classification survey and related services to the platform,facilitating “COSLPROSPECTOR” move to deep sea.

CCS has organized technical experts and plan approval departments to participate in time, carried out sufficient demonstration and analysis of all kinds of engineering proposals, and has carried out “back to back”engineering analysis to ensure the smooth operation of the project.

According to Yang Qingxia, the Director of CCS Marine Offshore Engineering Technology Department, the overall design of "COSLPROSPECTOR" project is based on the water environment of the North Sea, and satisfies the requirements of the Norwegian authority. The quality and specification of this product are high. As a participant,CCS carried out comparison and analysis of the environmental conditions of the North Sea and the South Sea, and research of related law and regulations. According to CCS’ rules and related standards, CCS cooperated closely with Raffles shipyard and DNV to review the design of “COSLPROSPECTOR”, and conducted onsite inspection. For CCS, "COSLPROSPECTOR" is an important attempt and breakthrough in the overseas market to comply with the high standards of the North Sea water area, it further improves CCS’ rule system for offshore engineering.

“Quality is the eternal theme of engineering project.” All CCS surveyors adhere to the principle of “quality first”.According to the special circumstances of the project,it is necessary for CCS surveyors to break through the traditional “inspection and acceptance system”, and follow each and every joint of the field work throughout the whole process. CCS surveyors are present in all occasions: field construction, marine installation and test. They are even stricter when the weather condition is worse or the construction space is not spacious. They know that there are always potential quality risks when the field survey condition is hard.

Lu Hai and He Beilei, surveyors from CCS Qingdao Branch, were responsible for the on-site inspection. Ever since they settled down in the shipyard, they gave all their hearts to the project of “COSLPROSPECTOR”.According to Luhai, compared with other platforms that they surveyed before, “COSLPROSPECTOR” is more complicated. Due to dual classification with CCS and DNV, it is necessary for surveyors to understand thoroughly, and to compare, summarize and coordinate CCS and DNV rules. In some key areas, such as precision assembling, welding process, welding process control, non destructive testing, cable guide device, the moon pool corner of opening and fatigue technology improvement, all require special focus and strict control.CCS surveyor He Beilei who took part in the platform trial navigation told reporter that he was very happy to witness the successful trial of “COSLPROSPECTOR”.Numerous staff from shipyard, ship owners, equipment manufacturers gathered in the “big family” of CIMC Raffles shipyard because of “COSLPROSPECTOR”project, and became friends. “COSLPROSPECTOR” is the culmination of the united efforts and cooperation of all parties.

In the process of “COSLPROSPECTOR” construction,CCS carried out technical exchanges with CIMC raffles,COSL, DNV, AG design companies, and established good relationship with them. The implementation of“COSLPROSPECTOR” project has given CIMC raffles and COSL a new understanding of CCS’ technical strength, project organization and management ability and the dedication of the field staff. The leader of CIMC raffles platform project gave the following evaluations to CCS’ surveyors. “They are conscientious and responsible, apart from strict control of the key areas,they also give good advice to some details that are easily neglected. On the site, the exchanges are very well, and we all look forward to working together again.
