Clearly the blue river chimes in its flowing

Under my eye；

Warmly and broadly the south winds are blowing

One after another the white clouds are fleeting；

Every heart this May morning in joyance is beating

Full merrily；

Yet all things must die.

O， vanity！

Death waits at the door.

See！ our friends are all forsaking

The wine and the merrymaking.

We are call’d—we must go.

Laid low， very low，

藍色小河的水流潺潺清奏

阿爾弗雷德·丁尼生（Alfred Tennyson，1809年8月—1892年10月），是英國維多利亞時代最受歡迎及最具特色的詩人。12歲時，丁尼生便寫出了6000行的史詩；18歲時，丁尼生與其兄出版了《兩兄弟詩集》；1828年，丁尼生進入劍橋大學學習，并堅持詩歌創作；1831年，因父親去世，丁尼生被迫輟學，兩年后，其摯友又英年早逝，這一切使得他深受打擊，此后10年未再發表任何詩作；1842年，丁尼生又開始發表新詩，從此詩名與日俱增；……
