You already know Alicia Keys and that 1)singular voice…
Alicia: (singing)Hotter than a fantasy,lonely like a highway...
…but for the last decade she’s been quietly using that voice to save others,…
Alicia: (singing) She’s living in a world,and it’s on…
…pushing prevention and treatment for HIV,her organization 2)Keep a Child Alive. And the children in those towns and villages in Africa she has helped to save, they now sing to her.
Interviewer: You say that a lot of us make the mistake of thinking it’s just happening over there.
Alicia: Mmm.I realized,I,myself, even,we’re just not talking about it in America. There’re so many people who are finding themselves newly infected, the infection rate is actually just remaining the same. It’s not going down here in America.

Alicia: (Public Service Ad)I’m Alicia Keys…
Interviewer: And,tonight, she’s behind a brand new project,Empowered, sitting down with women from all over America living with HIV and surviving.
Alicia: I guess we can be sometimes cruel human beings, and we can treat people…we can 3)ostracize them, and that’s very sad,and we can’t do that to people,so,for me,Empowered is really about taking the power back and really having a conversation with women, and particularly women of colour, who are really affected and infected at a higher rate, and, for me,that’s just,it’s not OK,so it’s not something we can just let go and we just watch people slowly die.Like, that’s not it.So that’s what Empowered is about. They’re your sister, they’re,you know,my sister is there, you aunty’s there, your daughter is,you know. They are our brothers, our fathers, our sons,it’s our community,it’s our global community.
Alicia, now a mother herself, wants these women to know they haven’t been forgotten. She wants to wipe out HIV for the next generation.
Interviewer: Do you look forward to the day when he says,“My Mom is the one who kept that conversation going”? Alicia: Wow! I kinda never thought about it,to be honest.Yeah, and I look forward to him being able to say,you know that we’re the first AIDS-free generation.Like, that he doesn’t know anyone who has AIDS,and he would never meet anyone who has AIDS from his generation. He’s only gonna be three, you know, imagine that he’s 13 and 20 and 25,and he could say
