《我家買了動物園》——生命需要溫暖的期待

2011年上映的電影《我家買了動物園》（We Bought a Zoo）改編自Benjamin Mee的同名回憶錄，講述了主人公Benjamin Mee如何拯救一座瀕臨解散的動物園并走出喪妻之痛、帶領兩個孩子重拾幸福和希望的故事。影片感人肺腑的故事、精致唯美的畫面、動人心弦的配樂以及動物園里那些動物們可愛的身影，讓觀影的人們心中充滿溫暖。影片自始至終歡快的基調讓我們明白，現實也許殘酷，命運也許無情，但生活中總有轉機，風雨過后總會有陽光，只要你有走出黑暗、重新開始的勇氣。

尋找夢幻島

Benjamin原本是個寫冒險故事的專欄作家，有愛妻相伴、兒女繞膝，過得非常幸福。然而世事無常，病魔突然奪走了妻子Katherine的生命，致使他的生活從此陷入悲痛與混亂之中。但面對少不更事的兒女，Benjamin不得不強忍心中的傷痛，開始手忙腳亂地照顧兒女的日常生活。他的上司十分同情他的遭遇，想把他調到更安全的工作崗位，但倔強的Benjamin不愿活在別人同情的目光下，一沖動便辭去了工作。誰知還沒等他踏出辦公室大門，就傳來了兒子Dylan在學校里偷東西的消息。Benjamin匆匆趕到學校，發現兒子的問題遠比他想象的嚴重。

Teacher： [對Benjamin說] Besides today's theft， there's a darkness here that we need to deal with. Mr. Devereaux， Dylan's art teacher， wanted you to see his wall mural （壁畫）. [Benjamin被帶到了Dylan的畫前，發現是幅殺頭的畫。] We're a three-strike （事不過三的） school， Mr. Mee， and today was his fourth strike. I'm sorry. We have to expel （開除） Dylan. But， as one parent to another， I ... I would examine his inner life.

Dylan： It's like he was expelling me for my artwork.

Benjamin： I can almost live with the artwork. I mean， if Charles Manson （美國歷史上最瘋狂的超級殺人王） needed a personal muralist （壁畫家）， you'd be the guy. But no， he didn't expel you because of the artwork. He expelled you because you stole. You stole！ It breaks my heart.

Dylan正處于叛逆的青春期，母親的去世帶走了他心中的所有陽光，面對天真無邪的妹妹和不懂如何和自己溝通的父親，他只能把滿腔憂愁訴諸畫筆。他有很好的繪畫天賦，但他的畫作總是充滿黑暗和血腥。Benjamin對Dylan的叛逆很是頭疼，幸好他還有一個可愛的小女兒Rosie。每次看到Rosie純真的笑容和那副貼心的小大人模樣，Benjamin心中的陰霾就會一掃而空。但他還是忍不住思念自己的妻子，在這個熟悉的家、這條熟悉的街道，他總是一遍又一遍地想起與妻子共度的幸福時光。夜晚，鄰居家的Party熱鬧非凡，吵得Rosie無法入睡，她聽著他們肆意的笑聲，對Benjamin說：“Their happy is too loud.”是啊，相較之下，這個家里的憂傷實在太過沉重。最終，Benjamin鼓足勇氣，決心搬到一個全新的地方開始新的生活。

在房產中介的帶領下，Benjamin與Rosie看了很多房屋，最終看上了郊外的一棟房子。但要買下這棟房子，就必須一并買下附近一座瀕臨破產的動物園。Benjamin對動物一竅不通，買下動物園無異于買下一個負擔，不得不忍痛放棄。但等他轉身打算帶著Rosie打道回府時，卻看到宛若天使的女兒正與動物們歡快地嬉戲，她那如銀鈴般清脆的笑聲回蕩在滿是陽光的天際。這一幕深深地打動了Benjamin。為了Rosie，為了新生活，他不顧哥哥和兒子的反對，冒險買下了這座動物園。

整修動物園

雖然這座動物園已經破敗，但依然有熱愛動物的人們堅守在此。年輕漂亮的Kelly是這里的負責人，她熱愛動物，甚至為此拒絕了繁華的都市生活，選擇待在這偏遠的鄉村。其他工作人員也都真心熱愛著這份職業。Robin是能干的工匠，Peter是技藝精湛的建造師，Linda是甜美勤勞的會計。新老板Benjamin受到了熱烈的歡迎，因為他的到來不僅拯救了這里的動物，還讓這里的員工能夠繼續做自己喜歡的工作。但他們對Benjamin并沒有什么信心，因為拯救動物園的擔子太過沉重，沒有幾個人能挑得起。Kelly看著對動物一無所知的Benjamin，忍不住問他買下動物園的理由。

Kelly： I have a question for you. You're some random guy from the city. No one in the zoo community has ever heard of you. You know nothing about animals. And you've moved into a dump （垃圾堆似的地方）. I mean what kind of regular person just up and buys a place like this？ Especially somebody with kids. Why？ You have no idea what we've been dealing with here. We used to have three times the staff. They all quit. No one gets paid， Ben ... jamin. We need somebody who can really take charge of this place or else we and all these animals are gone.

Benjamin： So your question is？

Kelly： Why did you buy this place？

Benjamin： Why not？

是啊，為什么不呢？動物園是Rosie的夢幻島，也是他的新冒險開始的地方。當生活無情地嘲弄著這一家時，Benjamin依然幽默樂觀，盡管他仍會看著亡妻的照片無語凝咽，但是至少他有了重新開始的勇氣。

自此，一段手忙腳亂、雞飛狗跳、驚險與快樂并存、意外與摩擦不斷的冒險之旅開始了。這里的圍欄和標牌似乎永遠修不完，看起來無比強壯的北美灰熊Buster最近有些抑郁，年邁的孟加拉虎Spar永遠那么安靜而又不怒自威，被激怒的豪豬毫不客氣地把為它們修圍欄的新老板趕了出去……有一次，Dylan忘了關上裝著一批外國蛇的箱子，結果第二天早上這些不速之客爬滿了他家門口的空地；還有一次，Benjamin開車接Dylan回來時遇上了在街上悠然散步的灰熊Buster，急忙叫來動物園的所有工作人員將它抓了回去……這里的生活忙碌且快樂，一如影片始終不改的歡快樂曲，處處透著希望與生機。

然而，夜深人靜的時候，那些在白天似乎已銷聲匿跡的思念與悲傷便會偷偷溜出來，然后漸漸彌漫開。天真的Rosie有父親的陪伴，懂得母親永遠活在自己心里。但與父親摩擦不斷的Dylan卻始終無法找到宣泄的出口。當他不得不縮短自己的童年去面對本屬于成人世界的憂愁時，年僅14歲的他卻得不到期待中父親應給予他的認可和支持，只能獨自在黑暗中掙扎。雖然Kelly的堂妹Lily與他同齡并很關心他，但他心中仍藏著一片無人能走進的落寞與傷痛之地。或許父子之間的矛盾總是更為激烈而難解，Benjamin不知如何面對自己的兒子，以為給兒子足夠的自由就是最好的辦法，卻不知Dylan有多渴望他的理解。

愛從未走過

負責檢查動物園是否符合標準的Walter Ferris是個吹毛求疵的人，每次他來的時候，大家都嚴陣以待，如臨大敵。而這一次突襲檢查的結果帶來了不好的消息：Benjamin還需要更多的錢整修動物園。其實在此之前，Benjamin就已經面臨了財政赤字，動物園的各項開銷以及請最好的獸醫為年老體弱的孟加拉虎Spar看病早已花光了他所有的積蓄，現在他已經負債累累。負責財務的Linda深知Benjamin的經濟狀況，認為他無法堅持下去，便告訴了所有工作人員準備散伙。得知消息的Lily紅著眼眶去找Dylan，卻發現Dylan其實很高興能夠離開這里，不由傷心離去。而就在Benjamin苦惱不堪、無計可施時，他竟在妻子穿過的舊毛衣里發現了意外的驚喜：妻子Katherine留下了一筆為數不少的遺產。這下動物園有救了！Benjamin的哥哥堅決反對他把這最后的積蓄浪費在動物園上，但Benjamin卻不愿放棄好不容易重新開始的這段快樂而有意義的生活。

Benjamin： I don't know how to say this. I've been an adventure addict my whole life. Um， with no big regard for cost. With ... well， with no regard for cost. Basically， I was just an observer and a writer. But this is my first real adventure. And I just want to say that it's been the best one of all because it's personal. And thanks to my Katherine， the money came through. So， I don't know what you've heard， but I am able to say， though I don't have a lot， I do have enough to get us by. And if you stick with me， I will give this everything. But I will need everything from you and we are going to reopen this zoo. It is the best job in the world. And it's gonna take everything to make it work. So don't ... don't give up on our adventure.

Katherine深愛著Benjamin，她深知丈夫無法獨自走出傷痛，更了解他為了冒險不計花銷的性格，因此早早就為他打算，存下了一筆錢。這是Katherine留給丈夫最后的禮物，也是一次真正意義上的告別。Benjamin終于明白，Katherine一直就在他身邊，從未走遠。

學會放手

在所有的動物中，Benjamin最偏愛那只風燭殘年的孟加拉虎Spar，然而Spar已經走到了自己生命的最后時光。人人都說應該給Spar實施安樂死，可Benjamin始終不愿放棄，仍舊一次又一次苦口婆心地勸它吃藥。直到有一天，Spar站在圍欄中的一塊巨石上不愿下來，仿佛在等待生命最終時刻的降臨，Benjamin再也無法抑制心中的痛苦。愛妻的離去讓他深知生命的可貴，而Spar的境況再次讓他體會到了那種無法挽留生命的無力感。他無法平復慌亂的心情，獨自到外面舔舐傷口，甚至忘記了給兩個孩子準備晚餐。當他深夜回到家時，Kelly已經安頓孩子們睡下了。此時，他終于敞開心扉，向Kelly傾訴了自己對妻子的思念。

Benjamin： I thought if I came out here it would stop. Back home， every place reminded me of her. I mean， the air， the way it smelled in May and August， because those were the months that her favorite bushes grew flowers all over our neighborhood. They're all triggers， man. And it got better for a while. I mean， it ... it did， out here. But the funny thing is that it just turns out that she's here， too. And most of all， it's the kids； they're the biggest triggers of all. I mean， Dylan. His eyes. You know， I've only seen that expression in somebody's eyes once in my life. And the way he just drives me nuts （把某人逼瘋）； he makes me crazy， denies me， frustrates me. And all the time， he's looking back at me with her eyes， and none of her lightness. What I've figured out is that when you love somebody that much， that hard， that long， you can never get away from them， no matter where you go. And that only comes once in a lifetime. Just can't get a handle on it. I cannot let go.

Benjamin對妻子的愛已深入骨髓，因而當他面對和妻子長得很像的Dylan時，總是難掩心中的傷痛，變得無所適從。他并不知道自己這一番話全都被在床上輾轉難眠的Dylan聽到了。Dylan以為父親討厭他，為此既傷心又憤怒，而Benjamin卻不滿Dylan不懂事，只知沉浸在自己的世界里，始終不能積極面對生活。父子二人由此大吵一架，終于發泄了各自長時間憋在心里的苦悶，也了解了彼此的苦楚。

陽光就在轉角

次日清晨，沉睡了一夜的動物園被破云而出的燦爛陽光叫醒。Dylan站在圍欄邊，看著蹦蹦跳跳的袋鼠，陷入了沉思。其實他早就愛上了這里，愛上了這些可愛的動物，只是倔強的他始終無法割舍過去的生活與朋友，無法掙脫沉重的喪母之痛。在看到父親的疲累、悲傷以及對他的愧疚之后，他決定與父親和解。他找到正與Spar告別的父親，父子間第一次有了心與心的交流。

Benjamin： What happened with you and Lily？

Dylan： I don't know. I guess I didn't listen to something she told me or something？ I mean， I liked her. It's like you embarrass yourself if you say something， and you embarrass yourself if you don't.

Benjamin： I like it when you talk. You know， sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage. Just literally 20 seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you， something great will come of it.

Dylan： I never know what to say to you.

Benjamin： I'm the same way. Why don't we just tell each other what we wish the other guy would say？

Dylan： \"I'm sorry I brought you out to the sticks （鄉下）.\"

Benjamin： \"You're a great dad.\"

那天晚上，Benjamin翻出妻子的照片，翻開過去一幕幕快樂的回憶，決定把這一切美好珍藏心底。而Dylan畫筆下的黑暗世界也終于裂開了縫隙，有了一絲光亮。

日歷被一頁頁撕下，在大家的共同努力下，動物園煥然一新，最終通過了審核，獲準開園營業。也許是好事多磨，就在開園前兩天，當地竟遭遇了百年難得一見的連綿暴雨。但7月7日開園那天，陽光奇跡般灑向大地，動物園如期開門迎客。那天，即使是暴雨中倒下的大樹也擋不住游客的熱情，他們排著長隊，翻過擋路的大樹，開心地走進久違的動物園。大家都很感激Benjamin拯救了這里的動物，卻不知道，這座動物園也拯救了Benjamin自己。

故事的結局是個happy ending：動物園大受歡迎；Benjamin與Kelly墜入愛河；Dylan與Lily重歸于好。影片最后，Benjamin帶孩子們來到與妻子相遇的餐館。那時候，他給了自己20秒瘋狂的勇氣與她搭訕，才有了他們后來珍貴美好的幸福。而當他失去她無法走出痛苦的深淵時，是對兒女的愛讓他有了勇氣買下破敗的動物園重新開始。現實中的Benjamin Mee曾說過：“The zoo itself is also a tremendous place for healing. It connects you to the circle of life.”的確，他買下的不僅僅是一座動物園，更是一座能夠治愈人心的醫院，一座充滿冒險和奇跡的夢幻島，或者是一方讓人能夠真正理解生活真諦的樂土。
