
A Berdsk municipal government delegation of Russia’s Novosibirsk Oblast paid a goodwill visit to Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region from November 27 to December 1, 2011 and signed a memorandum of understanding on friendly exchanges and cooperation with Fukang City of the Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture. The visit was made at the invitation of the Xinjiang People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (XPAFFC).
Berdsk is the second largest city of Novosibirsk region, and has advanced industries, convenient communications facilities, well- formed education and cultural systems and rich tourist resources. The visit of the delegation aimed to develop the friendship-city relations with Fukang, enhance mutual understanding and promote economic, cultural and educational exchanges and cooperation between the two cities.
The delegation visited Fukang Industrial Park, and Huaneng Xinjiang Fukang Thermoelectrical Co., Ltd. as well as hospitals, schools, kindergartens and the Tianchi International Ski Resort. The delegation head, Mr. Andrei Mikhailov, Vice Mayor of Berdsk, praised Fukang’s achievements in industry, tourism, education and health and said that, with the economic development and the well-being of the city’s residents, there would be broad prospects for cooperation.
When meeting with the delegation, Cao Zhiwen, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Committee of Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture and Secretary of the Fukang CPC Committee, expressed the hope that the two cities would strengthen exchanges and carry out practical cooperation for mutual benefit, making contributions to enriching the contents of bilateral relations at the national level.
At a meeting, Li Xinguang, Mayor of Fukang, and Vice Mayor Mikhailov gave a brief presentation of their respective city’s economic and social development, put forward proposals for exchanges and cooperation, and signed the memorandum of understanding on friendly exchanges and cooperation.
In Urumqi, the delegation met with leaders of the region’s departments of culture and education and Xinjiang University, and exchanged views on conducting cultural and educational cooperation.
