“不一樣”的英語肯定句和否定句

摘 要：筆者把英語句子在形式上肯定意義上否定和形式上否定意義上肯定的句子總結歸納出來，提出了正說反譯和反說正譯兩種方法。并且總結了每種方法在具體句子的應用，希望學習者能夠借鑒，并總結出更多的相似句子的翻譯方法。

筆者在教學和學習當中，遇到了一些有趣的英語肯定句和英語否定句，特總結出來，以供學習者在學習和翻譯的過程當中，能夠舉一反三，觸類旁通，少走彎路，更不要對于這些句子做出錯誤的判斷來。修辭上的肯定和否定是根據表達的需要而選擇不同語氣的句子形式，比如要肯定一件事，可以用“是”，也可以用“不錯”、“不壞”等。漢語如此，英語也是一樣。本文從翻譯的角度，談談一些英語句子在肯定或否定的表達上不同于漢民族的思維習慣，即形式肯定意義否定、形式否定意義肯定的句子，羅列出來，以供參考。為了便于分類說明，我們明確把英語中帶有否定詞no not never hardly 的句子界定為否定句。英語在表達否定意義非常靈活而復雜，在用詞、語法和邏輯方面與漢語存在較大區別。英語否定句的范圍和否定重點常要仔細區分。在英譯漢時，往往需要將英語中正面表達的詞或句子用漢語反面來表達，或英語從反面表達的詞或句子用漢語正面來翻譯。

一、形式肯定意義否定句子需要正說反譯

1、一些準否定詞如lack、fail、deny、miss、neglect、avoid、decline、refuse、absence、failure、exclusion、deficiency、without、beyond、beside、against、above、beneath、short of、free from、absent、blind、foreign to、last等都需要否定譯法。

There was a complete absence of information on the oil deposit in that area.

人們對該地區的石油儲藏情況一無所知。

The machine is far from being complicated. 這臺機器一點也不復雜。

The motor refused to start. 馬達開不動

Her conduct is above reproach. 她的行為無可指責。

The first bombs missed the target. 第一批炸彈沒有擊中目標。

I hate to say goodbye. 我真不想告辭。

My father will kill me when he finds me.我父親要是知道了，準饒不了我。

You are the last person I want to see.你是我最不想見的人

2、某些句型需要正說反譯法。如more than sb can ，more +adj+than+adj，anything but ，too to，比較級+than +to do 等句型。

This is more than I can accept. 這是我不能接受的。

I am more than disappointed than discouraged. 我是失望而不是絕望。

She is anything but a lady. 她絕不是一個淑女。

She is wiser than to do it.她那樣做就不聰明了。

3.尊重漢語習慣，正說反譯。

Mary lay awake almost the whole night.瑪麗幾乎一夜未合眼。

Give me liberty or give me death.不自由，毋寧死。

二、形式否定意義肯定的句子需要反說正譯

1. with no exception， as soon as not ，isn’t ，if not 等短語需要反說正譯。

I’d go there as soon as not..我非常愿意去。

Students， with no exception， are to hand in their papers this afternoon. 今天下午，學生統統要交書面作業。

Isn’t it funny? 真逗。

2.某些句型需要反說正譯。如not… until ，can’t be too， can’t do more， can’t …without ，not …before，couldn’t other than等句型需要反說正譯。

Draw not your bow until your arrow is fixed.裝好箭才能拉弓。

You can’t be too careful in writing.寫作上越仔細越好。

I couldn’t agree more.我完全同意。

You can’t make omelet without breaking eggs.有得才有失。

It will be not long before I go back to my home town.我很快就可以回老家了。

He couldn’t do it other than hurriedly.他只能匆匆忙忙的做事情。

3.尊重漢語習慣，反說正譯。

We never know the worth of water till the well is dry.井枯方知水可貴。

Don’t be afraid of calling a spade a spade even you come across your boss.即使見到老板也要敢有話直說。

當然，不同的思維方式往往需要不同的語言表達方式。正說反說的語言表達不同正是英漢思維的差異。通常正說反譯或反說正譯都是為了保證句子能夠更加保證的譯文通順。任何翻譯方法只有在實踐中才能應用，才能檢驗，同時實踐又進一步總結和完善了這些方法。但愿筆者的總結能夠使得更多的人參與在這一總結中來，這就是寫作的目的。
