你把錢花那兒？

Mr. Black gave his wife money every Friday evening， but she always spent it before the next Wednesday， so for the next three days she had none.

Every Tuesday evening Mr. Black asked her， “But what did you spend all that money on?” and she always answered， “I don’t know.”

One Friday Mr. Black brought home a notebook and a pencil and gave them to his wife with her money. “Now look!” He said to her. “When you get money from me， write it down on this page， and on the opposite page (反面) write down what happens to the money.”

When Mr. Black came home the next Tuesday， his wife came to him and showed him the notebook. “I have done what you told me，” she said happily. On one page she had written， “Friday， 28th June， I got $18 from John.” And on the opposite， she had written， “Tuesday， 2nd July. I have spent it all.”

A man walked into Joe’s cafe on a Saturday. He asked for three vanilla (香草) ice creams. Joe thought this was a bit strange， because the man was alone. “No， you don’t understand，” the man said， “I’ve got two brothers. When we were young， we enjoyed eating the ice creams together. Now， one of my brothers lives in Canada. The other one lives in Australia. But every Saturday， we each go to an ice cream shop. We each have three ice creams. We feel as if we are eating ice creams together. Then we don’t feel so far away.”

“What a lovely story!”? Joe said. “Here are your three ice creams.”

This continued for a few more weeks. Then， one Saturday， the man came， but he ordered only two ice creams. Joe was worried. Was one of the brothers dead?

“I know it isn’t my business，” Joe said. “But has something happened to one of your brothers?”

The man laughed. “There is nothing wrong with my brothers，” he said.

“Then why have you ordered only two ice creams?” Joe asked.

“I’m getting fat， so I’ve stopped eating ice creams. I’m just buying ice creams for my brothers.” And the man took his brothers’ two ice creams to his usual table and ate them.

大象的家庭

Elephants are the biggest four-legged animals in the world. They are friendly and seldom (很少) attacks (攻擊) people， but not always.

Elephants are like us in some ways. They live for a long time fifty or sixty years. They can memorize (記住) things very well. They never forget great sadness or great happiness. If a female (雌性的) elephant dies， her daughters and granddaughters are sad for many months. They stay with the dead body. Then they carry a bit of it away with them. They never forget a dead friend.

A male elephant does not often have a friend. He lives away from the family， and often away from other male elephants. Sometimes the females call a male elephant. He can visit them then， and stay for some time. But soon his “wife” and sisters send him away again.
