China and Brazil Pledge to Enhance Science Cooperation

China and Brazil pledged on April 12 to enhance cooperation on science and technology to advance bilateral relations to a new stage at the ChinaBrazil high-level dialogue on science， technology and innovation.During the dialogue held here， Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff praised China’s remarkable achievements in developing its economy， society， science and technology.Rousseff， who started Monday a six-day state visit to China， said the Brazil-China strategic partnership has enjoyed in-depth development， with pragmatic cooperation conducted in a wide range of areas.Considering its relations with China on science and technology as a priority， Brazil is willing to enhance science cooperation with China in areas of common interest， Rousseff said.Chinese Science and Technology Minister Wan Gang said China and Brazil have deepened bilateral relations in recent years and the science cooperation in the field of space technology has become an example for South-South cooperation.With a solid basis and broad prospects of bilateral cooperation， advancing China-Brazil ties in science and technology conforms to the basic interests of the two peoples， said Wan， who is also vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.China is willing to make joint efforts with Brazil to move bilateral cooperation on science and technology to a higher level， Wan said.Representatives at the dialogue held discussions on scientific development， bilateral science relations and scientific innovation policies. Topics also included renewable energy， nanotechnology， information technology， agriculture， food security and space technology.The participants said China and Brazil complement each other economically and have great potential for science cooperation. They called on both parties to enhance communication and cooperation and decided to hold the second round of dialogues in Brazil at a future date.More than 70 representatives from governments， science and research institutions as well as experts and entrepreneurs attended the gathering.
