Inaugurated in 2006, China Yiwu Cultural Products Trade Fair is the first international trade event in Zhejiang especially designed for cultural products. The trade fair aims to promote culture in an all-round way and strengthen cultural industries. With the development of the past five years, the trade fair has grown in to China’s leading international trade fair for the domestic industries of cultural and sports products.

The China Yiwu Cultural Products Trade Fair 2010 was jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government, hosted by Zhejiang Administration of Culture, Zhejiang Association for the Promotion of Cultural Industry, and the Yiwu Municipal People’s Government. The trade fair lasted from April 20 to 23, 2010.

The trade fair has now functioned better as a platform for international trade with more down-to-earth business orientation toward overseas markets. It hosts a few major groups of events such as trade exhibitions, meetings and forums, and related events. The last trade fair showcased six major categories of products from more than 10 industries. The six major categories were culture and office supplies, sports and entertainment, arts and crafts, creative products and toys, books and audio-video products, painting and calligraphy and antiques. All products of these major categories are supplied in great abundance and are displayed in categories and industries to make sure buyers can find exactly what they want and transactions can be conducted with ease.

Thanks to innovation, creativity and best service since its inception, the China Yiwu Cultural Products Trade Fair has formed outstanding characteristics.

The past five trade fairs have showcased excellent cultural products from various provinces. In 2010, the trade fair assigned a special zone for cultural products from international manufacturers. On display were 103 pavilions operated by thirteen countries and 26 organizations. The great abundance of domestic and overseas cultural products on display helped people understand how manufacturers at home and abroad can make cultural life colorful and enjoyable.

The number of visitors to the trade fair has increased over the past five years. Good buyers have increased in number and quality and become more specialized. Buyers are from over 100 countries and regions. Groups of buyers from Malaysia, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, India, Algeria, Hong Kong and Brunei have increased in size steadily over the past five years.

China Yiwu Cultural Products Trade Fair has served as an excellent platform for enterprises to showcase new and creative products. Exhibitions and business transactions at the trade fair have greatly spurred the innovation, variety, level, added values of cultural products.

At the China Yiwu Cultural Products Trade Fair 2010, a theme pavilion showcased the best cultural products from all over China in a bid to show the trend of consumption of cultural products at home and abroad and promote the development of manufacturing industries.

The trade fair this year saw a transaction volume of 1.69 billion yuan, an increase of 55.05% year on year.

Since its inception in 2006, the China Yiwu Cultural Products Trade Fair has been a focus of mainstream media in China. In 2006, the CCTV Network News covered the event and the People’s Daily reported it in the front page. On March 16, 2010, the trade fair organizers held a press conference at Ministry of Culture in Beijing, attended by more than 50 domestic and overseas media organizations. On April 20, 2010, major national news media such as Xinhua News Agency, Central People’s Radio, China Central Television, and China News Service covered the opening ceremony of the upgraded trade fair.

The China Yiwu Cultural Products Trade Fair 2011 is scheduled to be held from April 20 to 23, 2011 at Yiwu International Exhibition Center. The trade fair schedules to have 3,000 booths and have 80,000 special buyers including 5,000 overseas buyers and 30 trade groups. The exhibition is to be composed of sections of the bests of Chinese intangible cultural heritages, products from broadcast and radio industries, products of press and publication organizations. The special products will feature six major varieties such as printing and packaging, stationery and sports products, arts and crafts and frame pictures, electronic publications, and creative cultural products and toys. There will be five special pavilions to further enhance the prosperity of the trade fair.□
