精講片段之五

本片段劇情:穆茲擺下鴻門宴,明為宴請(qǐng)爺倆,實(shí)則打聽大鳥Kevin的下落,想捉住它。飯桌上,不諳世事的小家伙拉塞爾說(shuō)漏了嘴,暴露了Kevin的行蹤。穆茲發(fā)現(xiàn)了Kevin,還放狗出去追爺倆。爺倆和Kevin最終能夠擺脫穆茲的魔爪嗎?

Muntz: Epsilon, youve done it again!

Russell: Yeah!Hey!Hey!

Mr. Fredricksen: My Ellie would have loved all

these. You know, because of you she had this dream to come

down here and live by the fall.

Muntz: Im honored. And now youve made it.

Mr. Fredricksen: You sure were not a bother? Id hate to impose.

Muntz: No, no, its a pleasure to have guests. A real treat.

Dogs: Treat? Wheres my treat? I want my treat!

Muntz: I shouldnt have used that word. Having guests is a delight! More often I get thieves

trying to steal what is rightfully mine.

Mr. Fredricksen: No…

Muntz: They called me a fraud, those…But once I bring back this creature, my name will

be cleared. Beautiful, isnt it? Oh, Ive spent a lifetime tracking it. Sometimes, years

go by between sightings. Ive tried to smoke it out of that death land where it lives.

Cant go in after it. Once in, theres no way out. I lost so many dogs. Here they come

those bandits who think the bird is theirs to take!But they soon found that this mountain is a very dangerous place.

Russell: Hey, that looks like Kevin!

Muntz: Kevin?

Russell: Yeah, thats my new giant pet bird!I trained it to follow us.

Muntz: Follow you? Impossible. How?

Russell: She likes chocolate.

Muntz: Chocolate?

Russell: Yeah. I gave her some of my chocolate. She goes wild about it.

Mr. Fredricksen: But it ran off. Lets go now.

Muntz: You know, Carl…these people who pass through here they all tell pretty good stories.

A surveyor making a map…a botanist cataloguing plants…an old man taking his house to Paradise Falls. Thats the best one yet, I cant wait to hear how it ends.

Mr. Fredricksen: Well, its been a wonderful evening, but wed better be going.

Muntz: Youre not leaving.

Mr. Fredricksen: We dont want to take advantage of your hospitality. Come on, Russell.

Russell: But we havent even had dessert yet.

Muntz: Oh, the boy is right. You havent had dessert. Epsilon here makes a delicious cherries jubilee. You really must stay!I insist!We have so much more to talk about! Russell: Kevin?

Muntz: Its near. Get them!

妙語(yǔ)佳句,活學(xué)活用

1. impose: 勉強(qiáng)某人做某事,強(qiáng)加。例如:

He imposed his presence on us for the weekend.他硬要跟我們一起過(guò)周末。

2. fraud: 騙子。我們平時(shí)還常用swindler來(lái)表示“騙子”。此外,fraud還可以表示“欺騙、冒牌貨”。例如:

He obtained the money by fraud. 他騙得了那筆錢。

3. clear ones name: to prove someone is innocent of a crime or misdeed of which he has been accused為某人洗清冤屈,挽回某人的名聲。例如:

The spokesman released a statement attempting to clear his clients name.

發(fā)言人發(fā)布了一則聲明,想以此澄清委托人的名聲。

而“替自己洗清嫌疑”,就可以用clear oneself of/from a charge來(lái)表示。

4. years go by between sightings: 好幾年才能見到一次。sighting, 名詞,意思是目睹,看見。

5. smoke out: 查出,使公之于眾。例如:

The old war criminal was at last smoked out from his hiding place abroad.

這個(gè)老戰(zhàn)犯終于被人從他在國(guó)外的藏匿處查獲。

6. go wild: 氣得或喜得發(fā)狂。有時(shí)我們也用go hog wild來(lái)表示這種意思。例如:

The kids went hog wild, chasing the poor puppy all around the house, then fighting over who got to hold it, pet it and give it a bowl of dog food. 孩子們簡(jiǎn)直高興得發(fā)瘋,把可憐的小狗追趕得滿屋子團(tuán)團(tuán)轉(zhuǎn),接著又爭(zhēng)著搶著要抱它,撫摸它,并給它吃一碗狗食。

7. botanist: 植物學(xué)家。例如:

The botanist met with many rare plants. 這個(gè)植物學(xué)家偶然發(fā)現(xiàn)了許多稀有植物。

8. take advantage of: 利用,占……的便宜。弗雷德里克森在這里的意思是,我們不能利用你的熱情好客賴在這里不離開。

此外,take advantage of還可以表示“占某人的便宜”。例如:

It never occurred to me to take advantage of him. 我決沒有想到過(guò)要占他的便宜。

9. dessert: 餐后甜點(diǎn)。

dessert借自法文,特指正餐之后的那一道甜點(diǎn),區(qū)別于tea time的閑食。

本片段劇情:弗雷德里克森和小拉塞爾聯(lián)手與穆茲展開激戰(zhàn),小狗Dug也幫了不小的忙。就在爺倆準(zhǔn)備帶著Dug和Kevin乘飛屋離開時(shí),陰險(xiǎn)狡猾的穆茲一槍打爆了飛屋升起用的氣球。他們能成功逃脫穆茲的魔爪,平安離開嗎?

Alfa: Ill have plenty of enjoyment for what Im about to do to you.

Dogs: He wears the cone of shame!

Alfa: Not just continue sitting!Attack!No!No!Stop your laughing!

Dug: Listen, you, dog, sit!

Dogs: Yes, Alfa.

Dug: Alfa? I am not Alfa, he is…

Russell: Oh!I cant do it.

Mr. Fredricksen: Russell!Gah gah rah!(the WILDERNESS EXPLORER CALL)

Russell: You leave Mr. Fredricksen alone!Hey!Squirrel!

Dogs: Squirrel? Where? I hate squirrels!

妙語(yǔ)佳句 活學(xué)活用

1. raid: 突襲,搜捕。例如:

The raid was purely retaliatory. 這次襲擊完全是報(bào)復(fù)性的。

我們一般用air raid來(lái)表示“空襲”,而air raid warden就是指“空襲執(zhí)行長(zhǎng)”,對(duì)某人發(fā)動(dòng)襲擊,就是make a raid on。

2. take down that house: 把那座屋子擊落。

take down一般用來(lái)表示“拆卸”,例如城管常讓小販take down the booth(拆除攤位)。

而bring down the house則表示“博得滿堂喝彩”,這種說(shuō)法起源于劇院,從17世紀(jì)開始流行起來(lái)。很長(zhǎng)一段時(shí)間以來(lái),劇院里的演員把觀眾和劇院統(tǒng)稱為“house”。當(dāng)一個(gè)演員獲得了極大的成功時(shí),全場(chǎng)觀眾都會(huì)為她鼓掌、雷鳴般的喝彩簡(jiǎn)直可以把劇院給震塌。于是,人們就用“to bring down the house”來(lái)形容轟動(dòng)全場(chǎng)的演出或表演。

3. check in: 登記,報(bào)到。例如:

How many delegates have checked in? 已經(jīng)有多少位代表報(bào)到了?

在機(jī)場(chǎng),人們常用check in表示“登記”。機(jī)場(chǎng)的check-in serve就是指“登機(jī)服務(wù)”。在旅館,check in和check out分別表示“入住登記”和“退房”。

4. Target sighted: 目標(biāo)已發(fā)現(xiàn)。這是兩軍交戰(zhàn)時(shí)常用的一句話。例如:

Target sighted! Close and fire!目標(biāo)已發(fā)現(xiàn),接近并開火!

5. last words: 臨終遺言。

穆茲以為他馬上就要將弗雷德里克森置于死地,因此問(wèn)他還有沒有臨終遺言。

6. spit it out:請(qǐng)說(shuō)吧。這是一種俚語(yǔ)的說(shuō)法。此外,spit還可以表示“吐唾沫”,所以弗雷德里克森聽到這句話后,把假牙吐到了穆茲臉上。

7. cone: 圓錐體,錐形物。Dug給Alfa戴上了cone of shame,就是狗群里的“恥辱之圈”,所以狗群都不聽Alfa指揮了。

8. hang on to: 緊緊握住。此外,hang on to還可以表示“依靠,指望”。例如:

Nothing was left for him to hang on to. 他已經(jīng)沒有什么東西可以指靠的了。
