According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)， total soil loss on cuitivated cropland across the country decreased by nearly 40 percent from 1982 to 2003. This trend is indicative of modern agricultural technologies that enabled the preservation of more soil and the concurrent development of higher-quality soil.
