Human society has been decimated by a holocaust caused by biological warfare research gone wrong: instead of creating super-soldiers， a genetically-engineered virus turns infected humans into Hemophages， a vampire-like sub-species with enhanced physical abilities. In the infection-paranoid and technologically advanced society that follows， Violet is a singular Hemophage warrior battling the totalitarian dictator who is determined to wipe out her species at any cost.

Set in the late 21st century， a subculture of humans have emerged who have been modified genetically by a vampire-like disease (hemophagia)， giving them enhanced speed， incredible stamina and acute intelligence that they resemble vampires in nearly every way. As they are set apart from \"normal， healthy\" humans， Fear begins to breed within the power elite as the disease continues to spread and those infected prove to be truly superhuman and now a civil war is brewing between uninfected humans and those altered by Hemophagia.the world is pushed to the brink of worldwide civil war (a war between humans and hemophages) aimed at the destruction of the diseased population. Caught dead in the center of it is an infected woman called Violet ， who is bent on vengeance and has little left to lose. Provoked beyond reason by powers that will not rest until she and her people are dead， she will become everything her persecutors feared her to be. Because she finds herself protecting a nine-year-old boy who has been marked for death by the human government as he is believed to be a threat to humans and that boy has a surprising secret.

Violet lives in a totalitarian world in the future， ruled by Daxus. Once she was a human and the assistant of his husband， a scientist， murdered by the police forces of Daxus， who has turned into vampires a considerable part of the human race just to enlarge his forces. Violet has the task of rescuing a secret weapon: a boy named Six. After knowing the real intentions of this people with the boy， Violet takes him away and she'll be chased by Daxus because Six carries in his blood a rare cure， which could heal Violet and all the vampires.

Acclaimed director Osamu Dezaki will supervise the animators of the film's productions. Dezaki's longtime collaborator Akio Sugino will design the characters. Romi Paku will voice the main character \"044.\" 044 is a female warrior genetically engineered with high combat skills and ordered by the government to annihilate a vampire army.

著名導演出崎統將監制電影的制作過程。出崎統長時間的合作伙伴杉野昭夫將擔任角色設計工作。樸璐美將為這部動畫的主角“044”配音。044是一個經過生物學重組的擁有超強格斗技術的女戰士，她聽從政府的命令，去消滅吸血鬼大軍。

這是由米拉·喬沃維奇主演的好萊塢電影ULTRAVIOLETCode044的動畫版。以電影十幾年后的世界為舞臺，描寫了因為遺傳因子突變而成為最強戰士的女主角044的故事。作為此次《ANIMAX》10周年紀念日而改編的動畫《致命紫羅蘭 代號044》，將由株式會社負責制作，監督是曾經制作過《寶島》《雪之女王》《劇場版AIR》數部作品的出崎統。女主角的配音將由擔任過《鋼之煉金術師》、BLEACH等人氣動漫角色配音的女聲優樸璐美擔任。
