Ai Fukuhara was born in Sendai， Japan on November 1， 1988. She started playing at the age of 3 and was a professional table tennis player when she was just 10. Her mother， Chiyo Fukuhara， was also a renowned table tennis player in Japan. At the age of 11， Ai Fukuhara became the youngest player to be included in the Japanese national team.

福原愛于1988年11月1日出生于日本的森帶市。她3歲就開始打球，10歲的時候，就已經成為一名職業乒乓球選手了。她的媽媽福原織月也是一名日本家喻戶曉的乒乓球明星。小福原愛11歲的時候，成為了日本乒壇歷史上最小的乒乓球運動員。

When she was just 14， she finished fifth in the Women's World Championships held in Paris， France， in 2003. At the age of 15， Ai Fukuhara participated in the Summer Olympic Games held in Athens， Greece， in 2004.

14歲的時候，福原愛在2003年法國巴黎舉行的女子乒乓球世錦賽上，取得了第五名的好成績。15歲的時候，她參加了2004年在希臘雅典舉行的夏季奧林匹克運動會。

In first Olympic Games venture， she reached the round of 16. She had a bye in the first round. In the second round， she overcame Miao Miao of Australia in a thrilling 7-game match， winning 5-11， 7-11， 11-9， 11-6， 11-6， 9-11， and 11-9. In the third round， she defeated Jun Gao of the United States 11-3， 11-6， 11-8， and 11-9. However， in the fourth round， she lost to Kyung Ah Kim of South Korea 8-11， 5-11， 11-7， 13-15， and 6-11.

At present， Ai Fukuhara is placed eleventh in the ITTF Women's World Table Tennis rankings. At the 2002 World Junior Circuit held in Fort Lauderdale， United States， she won the women's singles title. At the 2003 World Junior Championships in Santiago， Chile， she reached the quarterfinals in the singles event and at the 2004 Junior Championships in Kobe， Japan， she reached the semifinals. She was placed third in the 2005 World Cup in Guangzhou， China.

現在，福原愛的個人單打成績排名世界第11位。在2002年美國勞德達爾舉行的世界青年女子錦標賽中，她奪得了冠軍。在2003年智利圣地亞哥舉行的世界青年女子錦標賽中，她打進了1/4決賽。2004年在日本大阪舉行的2004年同樣的比賽，她打進了半決賽，2005年在中國廣州舉行的世界杯比賽中，她取得了第三名。

In 2004， she took part in the world team championships and helped Team Japan finish third. She also speaks good Chinese. She attended Aomori Yamada Junior High School and graduated from Aomori Yamada High School in 2007. Both schools are located in the city of Aomori (Aomori Prefecture).

As of May 1， 2008， she was ranked 13 in the ITTF rankings (the highest ranked Japanese player). As of the same date， she is also ranked 3 of players under 21， a position she has held since December 2006.

Her first name Ai means “love” and she is often referred to as“Ai-chan” in Japan. Her youth and talent has made her a popular sports star in Japan， especially among young students. She carried the Olympic flame when it traveled to Tokyo in 2004. She carried the torch once again for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.

她的名字在日語中是“愛”的意思，也可以譯作“愛的橋梁”。她的年輕和才華使得她成為了日本最受歡迎的運動員，特別是在年輕人眼里。在2004年奧運火炬傳到東京的時候，她是一名火炬手。她也在北京奧運會中擔任了火炬手的角色。

Ai Fukuhara has appeared in two Japanese table tennis video games， including Fukuhara Ai Ai Fukuhara's Table Tennis， released on June 24， 2004 and Got to do! Hot Spring Table Tennis， released December 21， 2001， both for the PlayStation 2.

福原愛還被兩個日本國內著名的乒乓球游戲編入了角色，包括在2004年6月24日發行的福原愛的乒乓人生；和發行于2001年12月的熱力乒乓進行時。這兩個都是日本游戲工作站發行的第二代游戲。

In September 2005 Fukuhara Ai guest starred alongside Chinese actor Jackie Chan during the opening of a photograph exhibition， in Roppongi Hills， to celebrate 60 years of peaceful coexistence between China and Japan. In 2007 she was accepted in the prestigious Waseda University which she now attends.

2005年9月，福原愛在羅鵬基山作為中國著名影星成龍的向導參加了一個電影公開展覽會，以此來慶祝中日友好建交60周年。2007年她被現在就讀的日本著名的早稻田大學錄取，成為該大學的正式學員。

世界乒乓球錦標賽 (World Table Tennis Championships) 是國際乒乓球聯合會主辦的一項最高水平的世界乒乓球大賽，具有廣泛的影響。1926年12月，在國際乒聯正式成立的同時，第一屆世界乒乓球錦標賽在英國倫敦舉行。從1959年容國團為中國奪得第一個世界冠軍到第四十九屆（2008年團體）世乒賽結束，中國共獲得109.5個世乒賽冠軍，已經大大超過第二名匈牙利隊的68.5個和第三名日本隊的47個。
