Afew months ago， Coldplay’s Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends hit shelves， and sold 721，000 copies in its first week. It has become the best-selling rock record of 2008， cementing[鞏固] Coldplay’s position as one of the world’s biggest rock bands.

But fans who thought they’d have to wait years for more Coldplay won’t have to wait that long this time. In an interview on BBC Radio’s 6 Music show， Chris Martin said the band will release an EP注1 to be titled either Prospects March or Prospects Songs on December 26th “or something like that.”

During the radio program， R.E.M.’s注2 Michael Stipe pressed the band on the rumors of a forth-

coming[即將來(lái)臨的] album. “Is it true?” he asked. Chris Martin replied， “We’re going to put an EP out at Christmas called Prospects March and we’re going to release an album next December.”

The indecisive[猶豫不決的] Martin then turned to Coldplay drummer Will Champion. “Is the EP called Prospects March or Prospect Songs?” he asked. Champion said Prospects March， but “Let’s ask Michael Stipe!” they agreed.

Stipe said he preferred Prospects March.

Prospects March， or Songs， or whatever it is， will come out in December. Martin said the EP will feature several leftover tracks from Viva La Vida， including Luna， a song the British rockers worked on with Kylie Minogue注3.

Martin then revealed his band’s intention to

release an album of fresh material by the end of 2009. “I’ve said it very quietly， as we’re not allowed to announce the album. We’re going to have another record ready by November 2009 to end the decade，” Martin said.

The original rumor indicated[指出] that the band had produced such an abundance[大量，充足] of material for Viva La Vida that some of it will form the basis of the next album. However， Martin explained that wasn’t the case， saying， “We’ve recorded the EP， but we’ve got to get around to[抽出時(shí)間（做某事）] the other thing.”

Martin also joked that his band might disappear from the public eye after the release of their fifth album.

“We’re gonna be ‘Whoosh[嗖的一聲]! Where’ve they gone?’， just like Keyser Soze注4，” he said.
