The Fourth National Council Meeting of the China-Russia Friendship Association (CRFA) was held in the auditorium of the CPAFFC on July 11. CPAFFC and CRFA President Chen Haosu made an opening speech. Li Hui, assistant foreign minister, delivered a report on the growing Sino-Russian strategic and cooperative relationship. CPAFFC and CRFA Vice President Liu Zhiming gave a report on the work of the Third CRFA National Council and tentative plans for the work of the Fourth National Council.
President Chen Haosu reviewed the important historic role the CRFA (its predecessor the Sino-Soviet Friendship Association) has played in developing Sino-Russian (Sino-Soviet) people to people friendly relations and especially emphasized the work it has done to lay a solid social and mass foundation for developing friendship and cooperation between the two countries in the 21st century. He urged the CRFA to organize impact-producing activities, take an active part in carrying out the plans for the Russia Year and China Year, and help ensure the success of the major arrangements of strategic significance made by the leaders of the two countries for the next 5 years.
The meeting adopted the Statutes of the CRFA, elected Chen Haosu president, Liu Shu executive vice president, Yu Ping, Wang Fengxiang, Bai Shuxiang, Liu Zhiming, Zhu Jiamu, Su Guang and Luo Bin vice presidents of the CRFA; invited Wang Fengqi and other 13 comrades to be advisers to the CRFA; nominated Niu Yingli secretary general, Sun Qingguo, Kang Jingyuan and Lu Aizhen deputy secretaries general. Personages from the central departments and various social sectors and about 90 council members from Liaoning, Hebei, Hubei, Guangdong, Zhejiang and other provinces attended the Council Meeting. The new leadership of the CRFA presented letters of appointment to the council members.
