Invited by the CPAFFC, the Kirghiz women’s goodwill delegation headed by K. Abdybalieva visited Beijing, Shanghai and Suzhou.
CPAFFC President Chen Haosu and Vice President Su Guang met with the delegation and hosted a banquet in its honour. Kirghiz Ambassador E. Abdyldaev and his wife were present. President Chen Haosu briefed the guests on the achievements China had scored since reform and opening up. He especially pointed out that last year China had withstood severe tests of SARS while maintaining the good economic growth momentum, that the people had seen marked improvement in their livelihood and yearned for a better and more civilized way of life, and that China’s market economy had been further improved and linked more closely with the world economy. President Chen Haosu visited Kyrgyzstan 12 years ago at the head of a CPAFFC delegation and was accorded warm hospitality, the memories of which still remained fresh. He said, Kyrgyzstan then, having just had its first anniversary of independence, started to go global. Now 12 years have elapsed, Kyrgyzstan has achieved remarkable progress in all fields and there has been greater development of friendship between the people of China and Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyzstan is no longer that one-year-old child, but has grown into a teenage full of vigour and vitality who is working hard to build his motherland so that the people can live a better life and the country can play a more active role in the international arena in a more mature manner. President Chen spoke highly of the ever more important role played by women in social life.
Ms. Abdybalieva thanked the CPAFFC for inviting the delegation to visit China. She said, women play a very important role in enhancing friendship between the peoples and safeguarding world peace and women’s love can save the world. When talking about the relations between Kyrgyzstan and China, she pointed out, Kirghiz President has visited many countries. He has always stressed that great attention must be paid to developing friendly and cooperative relations with all countries of the world. Kyrgyzstan and China are close neighbours and to Kyrgyzstan it is more important to develop the good-neighbourly relations of friendship and cooperation with China. The Kirghiz people love the Chinese people and especially admire Chinese people’s diligence. There are a lot to learn from China.
Kirghiz Ambassador Abdyldaev expressed his satisfaction with the expansion and development of the cooperative relations between Kyrgyzstan and China in the political, economic, cultural and other fields. He said, last year exchanges of delegations or groups between our two countries reached over 70 and the total trade volume reached 314 million US dollars, the highest in history. The present visit of the Kirghiz women’s delegation at the invitation of the CPAFFC has filled a vacuum in our personnel exchanges. He hoped that China would send a women’s delegation to Kyrgyzstan in the future and that President Chen Haosu would visit his country again after 12 years to see the great changes there.
The delegation visited a private enterprise in Beijing and learned about the development of private enterprises in the process of reform and opening up in China.
During its visit in Shanghai, Ms. Mao Zhiqiong, vice president of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and Ms. Wang Luning, vice president of the Shanghai Women’s Federation, had cordial meetings with and entertained the delegation. They briefed the guests on the economic development as well as people’s livelihood in Shanghai, and in particular the tremendous changes that Shanghai has undergone in the past dozen years. Wang Luning talked in details about the Shanghai Women’s Federation as well as its work in various areas, including the organizational structure of the Federation, the scope of its work and the services it provides for improving the overall quality of women, creating job opportunities for the unemployed women, preventing family violence, etc. Her talk aroused great interest among the guests.
Kyrgyzstan is China’s close neighbour and one of the members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. It is China’s set principle to actively develop relations with Kyrgyzstan and this is also an important aspect of the nongovernmental diplomatic work of China. In June 2002, the leaders of our two countries signed the Treaty of Good-neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation, which ensures the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations in the new century.
The warm and friendly reception given by the CPAFFC moved every member of the delegation. They telephoned the Chinese ambassador to Kyrgyzstan as soon as they returned home, asking the Chinese Embassy to pass on their most sincere thanks to President Chen Haosu and others involving in the reception. They highly praised the tremendous achievements China has won since reform and opening up and held that all that is achieved is the fruit of correct principles and guideline laid down by the Chinese leaders and the diligence and talents of the Chinese people. They sincerely hoped that the friendship between the people of Kyrgyzstan and China would last generation after generation, for which they expressed their willingness to make unremitting efforts.
